Belgian Delights is a family couverture-chocolate business spanning continents and generations. It began in Belgium with Pierre Verstreken, passed to son Robert who opened a Hoevenen bakery in 1971, then moved to Australia with sons Dominique and Christophe, building a chocolate factory in Molendinar, QLD, and expanding to national and international supply — clients include major hotel groups, retailers and global wholesale customers.
The challenge
It previously used MYOB; as it expanded, limitations emerged with manual processes and spreadsheets becoming a roadblock to growth. As a chocolate maker it needs strict health & safety and ingredient traceability. Order-processing visibility was poor, relying on static data in multiple locations, and incorrect shipments were costly.
The solution
After evaluating several systems, it chose JCurve ERP (NetSuite’s SME edition in the ANZ region) to save time, streamline operations and support strategic decisions. It centralised data/processes and delivered full product/ingredient traceability. In 2018 it transitioned to a NetSuite manufacturing edition for added work-order and inventory-control benefits.
The results
Turnover increased by over 60% since implementing NetSuite, removing the need for an internal IT team entirely. Real-time inventory and financial reporting enable agile decisions, with ongoing cost savings and reduced manual workload negating the need for extra staff (Christophe calls NetSuite ‘an employee — a number cruncher that doesn’t whinge’). Human error was eliminated and manufacturing efficiency boosted.
Without a system like NetSuite, we would’ve had at least one extra person in the office to manage things. We couldn’t have achieved such levels of growth and efficiencies within the business without the reporting, and up-to-date, real-time data.
