Kokonut Pacific is a 20-year-old social enterprise producing premium virgin coconut oil and coconut products (Niulife brand), working with Pacific Island communities across quality control, storage, transport, export and marketing. A family business founded by agricultural economist Dr Dan Etherington (creator of DME® technology) and his wife Maureen — Niulife established in 2005.
The challenge
Rapid growth stretched the business at the seams. A proprietary software system had become resource-intensive and reliant on a single staff member — no visibility of sales trends/forecasts, inadequate inventory management, no system integration, and legacy customer/financial/payroll systems lacking modern capabilities.
The solution
Switched to JCurve in 2013, unifying operations into one solution with CRM, inventory control, financial management, customer relations and, importantly, eCommerce. It supports a complex business with five distribution channels, global manufacturing, global wholesaling and online retail.
The results
Immediate benefits — senior management can steer and grow operations. Around 30% year-on-year growth, with staffing, warehousing and oil sales doubled. Greater transparency revealed previously hidden issues (financial control, payroll, inventory, procurement). Every efficiency is a cost saving reinvested into its mission of supporting coconut-growing communities.
